INTRODUCTION :
The
Institution of Engineers (I), an all India, non-governmental
organization of democratic professional body of Engineering
fraternity incorporated under Royal charter was established in 1920,
with the Head quarters at Kolkata, to pursue the noble aims and
objectives of working towards advancement of science, Engineering
and Technology for the benefit of mankind.
The organization at present has over four lakh members of
professional Engineers covering 15 engineering divisions of various
disciplines, and has 18 States and 76 Local centers, 5 peripheral
bodies spread across the country and has even 6 overseas
chapters at Abudhabi, Bahrain, Dubai, Katmandu, Kuwait and
Qatar.
The
ministry of Science and Technology , Govt. of India has recognized
and approved the organisation as a Scientific and
Industrial Research organsiation, with Income Tax exemption
facility.
MYSORE LOCAL CENTRE :
The Mysore Local Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) was
established in 1964 and its present Corporate Membership strength
is about 750 and the Jurisdiction of the Local centre covers the
five districts of Mysore , Mandya, Hassan, Kodagu and
Chamarajanagar.
The Engineering professionals residing or practicing within the
Geographical boundaries of this Local centre can be part of this
prestigious pioneer Engineering Institution and pursue the noble
aims and objectives of the Institution. That is, promotion and advancement
of Science, Engineering and Technology for the benefit of our society
or the public in general. The local center has well developed
infrastructure facility of its own spread over an area of over 1˝
Acres at a central area of the city, in J.L.B. Road , Mysore.
The facilities include a large (600 seats capacity) Auditorium , a
large Library, Lecture Halls, Committee Rooms, Guest House,
Garden and Office accommodation with Fax, E-mail, Internet facility
and Webster (www.ieimysore.org).Apart
from offering good and up to date Library facilities, the
Institution arranges technical activities such as lecture meetings /
seminars / workshops etc., inviting top ranking experts in the
fields of various specialties to provide up to date
information in the field of Science, Engineering and Technology.
Free Technical consultancy / guidance / service is extended to the
poor and common man and to all public service organizations
including government departments with the help of experts and
experienced engineers available in the organization.
Keeping in view the noble idea of education on moral and ethical
values required in one's profession/life and to build a model
society for the peace and prosperity of the entire mankind, the
Mysore Local Centre of the Institution of Engineers has planned to
develop the only one of its kind in the country, a “Study
& Research Centre” named after Sir.M.Visvesvaraya, as an
Institution or Temple of learning, on discipline, dedication, hard work,
honesty and sincere service to the Society, on which principles the
Engineer-Statesman Bharatha Ratna Sir.M.Visvesvaraya amply
demonstrated through his deeds, throughout his long life span of
over hundred years.
Further,
a Technological Museum named after Sir.M.Visvesvaraya is being
developed on the lines of `Visvesvaraya Science Museum’ in
Bangalore, but with a plan to exhibit models of the latest pride
achievements of India in the various fields such as vital
Industries, Space Research, Defence developments, Aviation
etc., which are donated by the Heads of the various State and
Central Govt. Departments and Private concerns for the benefit of
School and College Students of the remote Regions.
